It is hard to think of another destination that can compete with the Serengeti from a density of animal numbers point of view. The Serengeti is an absolute haven for wildlife, from grazers to browsers and predators it is a wildlife oasis.
The Serengeti is a name firmly embedded within the safari culture of both days gone by and the modern era. It has inspired filmmakers, drawn in countless wildlife photographers and romanced lovers from all around the world. It is a constant source of inspiration with an abundance of natural beauty that never seems to wither. The Serengeti stands alone in it’s marvelous ability to deliver an extraordinary encounter with Africa’s wildlife unlike any other and our Serengeti Migration Safari offers you the perfect way in which to experience it.
We begin our Serengeti Migration Safari experience in Tarangire National Park, rich in game viewing experiences. As the dry season approaches more wildlife from the surrounding region will move in towards the park’s all-year round water source.
There’s fantastic scenery to be enjoyed here, and it will offer guests a fantastic start to their Serengeti safari experience.
Where we are staying in Tarangire National Park: Ndovu Tented Lodge
Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge is located in the heart of Tarangire, Tanzania’s wild land and landscapes. Tarangire is famed for its massive elephant herds, true sense of wilderness and a gentle backdrop of baobabs.
At Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge, there are twelve permanent tents made up of nine standard suites, one honeymoon suite with outdoor shower and 2 x two bed room inter-connected family suites.
The camp is open all year around and especially during the dry months, the massive elephant herds travel through the corridor between Manyara and Tarangire and spend their time in and around the park. This is because of their ability to uncover permanent sources of fresh water.
Tarangire lies at the base of the Ngorongoro Crater, and this will be our second destination. This wildlife haven is a bucket-list destination for just about every avid nature lover & wildlife photographer. The crater floor is bonanza of wildlife & vistas, you’ll find it hard to pry your camera from your face! Many rumors have been spread about the “over utilization” of the park by too many visitors, but we can assure you that it needs to be seen to be appreciated. It’s simply spectacular.
Where we are staying in Ngorongoro Crater: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater’s entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometre above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.
Themed around traditionally circular African houses with conical roofs, and decorated with examples of Africa’s rich tapestry of artistic traditions by way of rich woodcarvings and sculptures, the lodge harmonizes perfectly with its dramatic surroundings.
But the drama does not just stop with the great outdoors: it also flows through the split level interiors of the main building which all offer an unsurpassed generosity of space while somehow managing to combine an almost magically welcoming ambience of both warmth and cosiness.
Ndutu & its surrounds will be our third stop. We will enjoy 5 nights here and the days will centre around the migratory herds consisting of over 2 million animals. They come to rest and give birth in the region generally west from Kilimanjaro and we base our safari within the hotspot that is Ndutu.
This region is also very well known for the tree-climbing lions, found within the vicinity of the Ndutu Lakes.
Where we are staying at Ndutu: Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp
Situated in the heart of the action, very close to the Ndutu Marsh is Nasikia Mobile Camp.
This incredibly charming Camp moves every year, following the herds of Wildebeest during the Migration.
The tents have netted windows down each side of the tent which you can open with only the canvas remaining at all times with the mosquito netting stitched strongly into the actual tent. Then comes the bathroom area, which can be accessed directly from the bedroom with a separate doorway.
Once inside, there is a bathroom stand with a ceramic wash basin with running water via stylish taps, a mirror, a supply of natural based bathroom products, and linen to suit. This area also displays a woven grass mat and clothes rack.
Within this area, there are additional toilet and shower areas for privacy. Inside the toilet area is a ceramic flushing toilet, encased in a wooden frame for stability. Inside the shower area, is a stand for washing behind a shower curtain under a 20 litre PVC bucket erected on a pulley system as required. From the entrance of the bedroom and onto the bathroom, each tent is fitted with an extensive solar lighting system for your convenience.
We finish this safari off in big cat country within the eastern Serengeti.
This exclusive expanse of the Serengeti is where the acacia woodlands borders the great savannah, attracting herbivore masses of elephant, giraffe, zebra, warthog and more. This diversity means predators abound, including quality sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah & hyenas.
Our focus will be to spend time with predators on the hunt. To add to the beauty & variety of the region, there’s also a group of rocky outcrops or “kopjes”, known to house prides of lions as well as some leopard
Where we are staying in Eastern Serengeti: Ehlane Plains Camp
The dream that is Africa : after watching the romance of exploration and adventure of the safari expeditions of a bygone era on the big screen, it’s time to create memorable voyages of your own.
Ehlane Plains Camp has been established in the far eastern plains of the Serengeti, a remote and wildlife-filled pocket of the savannah. This is where the magic begins, this is where your dream of wild Africa comes alive.
Ehlane’ is a Zulu word which translates to ‘wilderness’. It is a clear description of the extraordinary and newly accessible location which presents forth an unsurpassed display of predators and predator activity.
The area is unique; unspoilt, silent, remote and truly exciting. The camp offers eight tents designed to merge with the eco-system, all under canvas and all with clear vistas of the wilderness ahead.
Each tented suite contains a lounge cove with comfortable couches and coffee table, dressing area with handcrafted cupboards, net-draped king size bed with bedside tables and lamps, mninga writing desk with chair, full length wall mirror and soft carpets to wander along.
