During this crazy time we're all living in, we tend to often, multiple times a day in my case, find ourselves coming to an abrupt halt and begin to think of the future. One thing that I have realised in this process, is that thinking back to the fun days shared with amazing guests out in the field always helps. It gets me very excited to get back out there and create more life long memories and in turn, mould a brighter future.
So, cherish the good times! Its soothing...
At Wild Eye, we all have a common objective and this is to create the best possible safari experience for our guests and by doing so, change the way they see the world!
Lets dig into a bit of history.
Wild Eye was established in 2012 by Jono Buffey, Gerry van der Walt and Andrew Beck. These three men set out to refresh the photographic travel and private guiding industries by focusing on providing a professional service that is fun and relaxed while providing guests with amazing travel experiences and world class service.
From humble beginnings they have grown not only the service levels and destination offerings; they have also created a platform for qualified and experienced guides (like myself) to continue growing their brand in the photographic, safari and travel industries.
The Wild Eye team has grown dramatically and is now made up of 8 full-time expedition and tour leaders, full logistics and safari operations teams in both our Johannesburg and Nairobi offices as well as our very own authentic piece of Africa - the Wild Eye Mara Camp.
Still today, during this crazy time, our aim is to continue to build the best and most dynamic photographic and travel company in the world while continuing to change the way our clients see the world!
I will get to how we, Wild Eye, are continuing to have a positive impact on peoples lives all across the globe but before I do, I want to share some great 2020 moments with all of you. These are the kind of moments that make me sit and think... Even in the short period of three months (January - March), so much good has happened and this is why its so fulfilling to look/think back and cherish the good times you may have had.
SO much goodness right?
And there are many more incredible moments that I'll share at the end of this blog if you'd like to take the time to see them.
A previous and great guest had wrote this one line in his testimonial about the Best Of Kenya Safari, "Wildlife experiences can be enhanced or diminished by the people one travels with." - Deji Odetoyinbo
I could not agree more!
Come to think of it, I'd like to thank every single guest that had joined me on an adventure in the past, you guys are the reason why I do what I do!
So while we are on the positivity train, lets take a moment to see some positive words that I have received from some of these incredible people;
"My experience with Wild Eye exceeded my wildest expectations!"
- Cheryl Black
"Short version - FREAKING PERFECTLY AMAZING!"
- Kim Van Nguyen
"Wild-Eye delivered a world class photographic safari covering truly the best of Kenya. A very personal and intimate experience with a special mention to the incredible staff and friendliest camp they operate exclusively in the Mara."

- Jen Lawrence
Thank you to every single one of you for sending me a email and/or message with your kind words, they are truly appreciated!
Will forever cherish the good times I got to share with you all BUT my excitement to create more memories with you all in the future over powers a mere memory.
Okay, this has been a very positive read to this point but it is time to face the negative reality just a bit, which, believe it or not, has lay a path for more positivity.
COVID-19 has left its, still unclear, mark with industries across the globe having been forced into some form of change. Wild Eye included as our much loved travel crave has been put on hold. So... we've adapted and this is where we get back to the positive stuff.
Amongst all the 2020 safari postponements we have still managed to do what we love and this is to share our love, passion and knowledge through our various new offerings. These are offerings that we can now offer to a much wider range of people across the globe as these are offerings that can be enjoyed in the comfort of their own homes by joining us on our private online tuition and weekly webinars.
As I mentioned, we do what we do for YOU and so we WILL continue to do so.
I can say this over and over again but words can honestly not express of much of a thrill we, every Wild Eye employee, get when we provide our guests with a life changing service and/or experience. May it be in the field and/or online.
So again, a massive thanks to everyones recent kind words with regards to these challenging times.
“I could not imagine a more productive way to spend an hour. What I love most is that the time is individually tailored and lets us focus on my own images. Mike helped bring my photos to the next level without overwhelming me with too much theory yet explaining the program in just the right dose. Additionally, I received a video of our work together which I regularly refer to when editing pictures on my own.”
- Barbara Hartmann
- Pascal Beagrie
Looking at the past, present and future... These kind words will definitely have us all looking back to cherish the good times.
