Expressing Appreciation

Take a moment to think back. How often do you find yourself sitting back, expressing appreciation for the many blessings in your life? Not enough right?

Lets take a moment for some clarity;

appreciation

  1. noun

1.

recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.

"I smiled in appreciation"

synonyms:

valuing, respect, prizing, cherishing, treasuring, admiration, regard, esteem, high opinion

"appreciation of literature comes only from first-hand study of the works of great writers"

This is exactly what I feel and more for the star of this blog!

In my 99th blog I wrote a while back and re-sharing now, I would like to take a moment to thank Phios Mkansi for everything he is. For everything he had taught me. For everything he did for me and for being the kind hearted individual that he is.

Thank you Phios, you're an absolute legend!

Most people think that a tracker is just a hood ornament. An individual only good for looking for animal tracks and shining a spot light at night.

This is their main role but a tracker is so much more than just that. I had the privilege of working with Sabi Sabi's Head Tracker, Phios Makansi everyday for just shy of 2 years.

In this short period of time he had taught me & our guests so much about the natural world. The do's & don'ts but most importantly, Phios taught me the most important thing, how to respect the environment.

I am privileged to be able to call this man not only a friend but a brother as well.

Words cannot express how much I need to thank this man for he has played a huge role into moulding me into the guide I am today.

A tracker is usually extremely humble. Next time you are out on safari, I urge you to take some time, pull your tracker aside or invite him for a drink and just don't stop asking questions.

Take Phios as an example,

He has been bravely sitting on the front of a game viewer for the past 25 years.

His eyes have seen things one could not even imagine;

He has experienced things one could only dream of;

And still, he is a pure soul.

Trust me, he has one or two spectacular stories to tell you.

Phios, today I am expressing appreciation to you. Thanks again my friend!

Michael
