Symbolic of strength & courage yet feared like few other creatures on our planet, an encounter with the Jaguar will leave you in utter awe. Whisk yourself away for the adventure of a lifetime in the heart of “Onca” territory on our Jaguars of the Pantanal Photo Tour.
None of the Pantanal’s inhabitants are as sought after as the elusive Jaguar. This exciting Wild Eye Safari is designed to take you into the heart of the spotted cat’s territory as we dedicate nearly 9 days entirely to time with Jaguars. Although finding & photographing Jaguars requires time & patience, you’ll be surprised by the typical regularity of sightings. We will spend entire days (apart from lunch breaks) in search of this striking cat and stand a good chance of not only seeing them, but also of watching them on the move as they explore their territories and go out on the hunt, fascinating first-hand behaviour.
The tour will consist of a small group in the company of a skilled photographic Wild Eye guide, and a local expert guide, ensuring no detail to attention is overlooked & maximum time spent looking for and enjoying the company of these incredible cats is the order of the day. In the company of these experts you’ll be sure to both get the images you’ve dreamed of Jaguars of the Pantanal, as well as learn more about this fascinating wilderness & the striking creatures that inhabit it.

Jaguars of the Pantanal Overview
Whisk yourself away for the adventure of a lifetime and join us for the Jaguars of the Pantanal photo tour where we focus on this iconic big cat.
Day 1 Arrival Cuiaba, overnight Gran Odara | Day 2 Transfer to Piuval Lodge, overnight | Day 3 Transfer to Hotel Pantanal Norté | Day 4 – 10 Full days looking for Jaguars | Day 11 Short morning safari, transfer back to Cuiaba for travel back home
Arrive into Cuiaba where you'll be met off your flight from Sao Paulo and transferred to the Gran Odara for the night. Meet with your Wild Eye guide & local tour leader and all the other guests here. This costs of this first night is included.
Transfer to Piuval Lodge
After breakfast we'll transfer to Piuval Lodge. It’s only a 3 hour drive from Cuiaba and is a great introduction into the way of life here in the Northern Pantanal. The hotel lies at the top end of the long Transpantaneira Road, the bulk of which we’ll tackle on day 3. We’ll enjoy an afternoon activity in search of wildlife & birds, and even get a chance to see the local Pantaneira cowboys in action. Enjoy dinner here and overnight.
Depart for Porto Jofré
Depart after breakfast en route to Porto Jofré. It’s a 3.5 hour drive along the stunningly scenic and historic Transpantaneira Road. The road has more than 140 bridges as you cross over the worlds largest wetland. Arrive at Hotel Pantanal Norté, settle in and get ready for a full afternoon on the river in search of the might Jaguar.
Day 4 - 10
Full days in search of Jaguar
These will be full days at Hotel Pantanal Norté. The day will start with a short breakfast
well before dawn. We'll depart the lodge at first light & go in search of Jaguars and
everything else on offer within this watery wonder-world. Although the focus on this tour will be the big cats, there will be much more on offer every day. Capybara & cayman are an ever present feature.
There's a good chance of seeing primates as we go as well as iguana's and even anaconda. There's the odd chance of seeing different deer species and tree climbing porcupine, and even a very small chance of a puma. We'll head back to the lodge for lunch at 12pm, and depart again at 2pm. We generally get back to camp some time after sunset as it's dangerous to be on the boat and on the river when it gets dark.
Porto Jofré is not more than 10 minutes from prime jaguar viewing territory so you will be well situated on this tour. We prefer to use this camp as our base as the food is fantastic, staff courteous and to be on land (as opposed to a houseboat) means you get off the water everyday to walk the garden and to stretch your legs. There's great bird viewing opportunities in camp for iconic species such as macaws, toucans and more. You can even go for a daily run to get the legs stretched (although you have to keep an eye out for jaguars around camp itself).
We will enjoy a shorter morning on the river in search of our last encounters with Jaguars and the other wildlife of the Pantanal. We'll board a chartered flight that'll take us directly to Cuiaba, signalling the end of this exciting tour.
