At Tswalu you’ll encounter species you may have probably not seen elsewhere before. Pangolin, aardvark and meerkat to name a few of the drier area specialist species. Due to its many rarities, embarking on an adventure to Tswalu will truly change the way you see the world.

Tswalu Kalahari Reserve is not shared with guests from other concessions or lodges which means that there are no areas that are off-limits, and you can spend as long as you wish at sightings or indulging in your own particular interests, whether they are creatures large or small. A private guide, vehicle and tracker are assigned to you will allow for a completely personalised Tswalu experience.

Day 1: Arrival at OR Tambo International and overnight at The Intercontinental Hotel at ORT International| Day 2 : Internal flight to Tswalu | Day 3-5 : Safari activities at Tswalu Kalahari Reserve | Day 6 : Morning safari & internal flight back to Johannesburg (or onwards to Cape Town).

Day 1

Arrival in Johannesburg

After landing at OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg, you will be escorted to The Intercontinental Hotel to overnight before departing for Tswalu the following day.

Day 2

Flight to Tswalu Kalahari Reserve

You will be transferred from The Intercontinental Hotel to the Fireblade Aviation hanger which is on the far end of OR Tambo international airport to board an internal flight to Tswalu. Once we arrive in Tswalu we will be met by our allocated guide and transferred to the lodge, where we can settle in before our afternoon activity.

Game viewing at Tswalu is prolific as you you can encounter over 200 species of bird and 80 mammal species, including sable, roan, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, wild dog, black maned lion, but what makes the experience so unique is the time you get to walk and spend on foot with the meerkat colonies, pangolin and aardvark (best during the winter months mid June to mid August).

Day 3-5

Daily Safari Activities at Tswalu Kalahari Reserve

Our mornings will start at various times depending on the season. The summer months will see us up and about very early as we aim to maximise our game viewing opportunities during times when wildlife, and especially predators are most active.

Winter mornings will start slightly later as the Kalahari’s morning temperatures are cold and so we will allow for it to warm up a bit first as we will again aim to maximise our game viewing opportunities during times when temperatures warm up enough for the wildlife to become active.

As Tswalu is a massive property, the mornings safari plan will be discussed with our guide at dinner the night before so that we can know what areas and species to focus on. Rest assured that over the four night stay, we will have ample time to tick off all the must do experiences at Tswalu.

Depending on animal movements we might return to camp for lunch and depart again later in the afternoon, or we might enjoy a full day out on safari.

We also have the opportunity of enjoying night drives, which are usually conducted as an extension of the afternoon safari, returning just before dinner.

Day 6

Flight to Johannesburg or onwards to Cape Town

After our last morning safari at Tswalu, we will depart on a scheduled flight to Johannesburg or you can opt to continue your journey onwards to Cape Town.
