SAFARI EXPERIENCE

Safari drives at Londolozi are taken by professional, passionate, and knowledgeable rangers and trackers, who have 350 years of experience between them. With over 16,000 hectares of traversing wilderness, no two game drives are ever the same.

In today’s safari practice, rifles have been replaced with cameras, and the only shooting done is to photograph the majesty of animals, birds, and trees. Londolozi’s rangers specialize in photographic safaris and, where possible, will position the vehicle for guests to get the best angle for photography. They will also share advice and knowledge where they can so you can capture the moment in all its glory.

It was the young Norwegian explorer Eivind Astrup (1871-1895) who provided inspiration for the hotel, which was completed on the 1 st of February 2016. Key words such as rustic, timeless and robust were guiding values for the design of the hotel, in order to reflect Astrup, who is the youngest recipient of the Order of St. Olav.

The museum has a particular role as a disseminator of the unique natural and cultural history of Svalbard. The museum also holds an important position as an institution of knowledge in the Arctic - a Norwegian institution in an international landscape.

Svalbard Museum aim to collect, preserve, disseminate and work with research connected to natural and cultural history, environment and cultural heritage on Svalbard.

OVERVIEW

The first museum committee was established in Longyearbyen in 1964. In 1969, 86 objects were collected in the old post office below the church. January 18th 1979, the first Board of Directors was constituted and in 1981 the museum opened it's doors for the general visitors in the old pig stable.

The museum was officially opened February 20th 1982.For years to come, the activity was based upon the voluntary work and commitment of the locals. Until 1998, there were no hired employees. In 1999, again in cooperation with the local community, the work towards beeing a "professional" museum commenced.Svalbard Museum was organized as a part the local "Svalbardrådet" (Svalbard council), became a foundation in 2000 and in 2002, as a departement in the newly establised "Longyearbyen Lokalstyre" (The local council of Longyearbyen).

A world frozen in time, sustained by mutual respect and symbiosis between man and animal – all at the mercy of the elements. A haven for those who live to disprove that which seems impossible. Where seeds of seeking the essence will blossoming to magnificence.

This raw, unforgiving nature is what inspires us – this solitary place at the top of the world where we’ve made our brewery, our home. Our beer is improbable, unlikely – and quite unlike any other beer in the world.

It’s part of human nature to always push further – to run a little faster, or throw a little further. To solve a yet unsolved problem, or invent something brand new. To settle, build and expand where no one has before.

It took some large snowballs to establish a brewery at the top of the world. An idea not spawned out of necessity, but rather our inherent drive to always push further, and do something that’s never even been attempted.

The M/S Stockholm is a classic ship built in 1953 for the Swedish National Maritime Administration. In 1998 she was totally refitted and started her career as a comfortable polar passenger ship. The M/S Stockholm carries a maximum of 12 passengers in twin cabins with bunk beds. All cabins have private facilities and small windows (portholes). M/S Stockholm is a marvellous piece of maritime history with beautiful brass details and

wooden decks. It is no wonder she is loved by so many! After 20 years of navigating the waters in Svalbard she has the experience and track record of being able to access difficult to reach sites

TRAIN OVERVIEW

Each train has accommodation carriages, dining cars (±42 seats), a lounge car (±26 seats), small gift shop, smoking lounge (±11 seats), and observation car (±32 seats) with an open-air balcony. Maintaining the spirit of a bygone era, there are no radios or television sets on board. The three types of suites available – Pullman (7 m2), Deluxe (10 m2), and Royal (16 m2) – offer passengers privacy and comfort with double or twin beds and fittings and facilities that are of the highest standard.

All travellers are welcome  – singles, couples, and groups. The dining cars are made up of two-seaters and four-seaters where guests eat together or individually.
