DAY 2 - 6
Olakira Migration Camp
Northern / Southern Serengeti
Olakira Migration Camp follows the migration throughout the year, offering the closest possible view of the action. The canvas tents are designed to blend into the bush without leaving a trace, though that doesn’t mean they scrimp on comforts. Admire the sprawling plains of the Serengeti or Ndutu region from the dining tent, or spend a leisurely afternoon in an armchair, watching zebras or Thomson’s gazelles pass by. After dark, dinner is served under the stars.
From December, the camp moves to a southern base in Ndutu, in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Here, the camp is conveniently close to an airstrip, besides being well positioned for excellent wildlife viewing. The camp looks across grassy plains, on which the wildebeest gather to give birth around February each year. Watch thousands of wobbly-legged young finding their feet, something they have to do quickly to avoid the watchful big cats that stalk these plains.
QUICK FACTS
- Ten tents
- Luxurious tented accommodation
- Stargazing tent design
- Open air vehicles with charging points and cold fridges
- WiFi available in main mess area
- Charging points available in rooms (not appropriate for hair dryers though)
SAFARI EXPERIENCE
Start the day bright and early with a wake-up call and tea or coffee. Enjoy breakfast before you depart for a morning game drive (or have it packed as a picnic to take with you). You'll arrive back at camp mid-morning, with a chance to freshen up before lunch.
After a leisurely lunch, enjoy some down time. Read a book or just relax and soak up the atmosphere. Refuel with afternoon tea before departing for an afternoon game drive with sundowners. Return in time for a relaxing evening of drinks around the campfire and dinner.

DAY 6 - 9
Namiri Plains
Central Serengeti
Namiri Plains is positioned along the Ngare Nanyuki River in the eastern Serengeti. The vast grassland plains are mostly open, aside from the occasional acacia tree. As it’s one of the few locations in the eastern Serengeti with permanent underground water sources, game viewing here is excellent. The seasonal riverbed attracts plains game, such as zebras or reedbuck, who come to quench their thirst, making it an ideal spot for viewings. It’s no surprise that predators have caught on to this, too.
The short grass of this area makes it popular with cheetah, who can more easily chase down their prey. It is particularly meaningful to see cheetah here, as this part of the Serengeti was closed for nearly 20 years to allow the population to recover. It’s now a haven for these big cats, as well as lions and a few leopards.
QUICK FACTS
- 10 tents
- Luxurious tented accommodation
- Plumbed on-demand water (and hot showers!)
- Open air vehicles with charging points and cold fridges
- Wi-fi available in main mess area
- Charging points available in rooms (not appropriate for hair dryers though)
SAFARI EXPERIENCE
Enjoy twice daily game drives from Namiri Plains with fabulous knowledgeable guides. All of the camp's vehicles are open-sided and have power points where you can charge your devices; they are also fitted with fridges to keep your drinks perfectly chilled. Walking is the most intimate way to experience the bush; the pace is comfortable, your eye-level is that of the wildlife, and your senses are more acutely aware of the sights, smells and sounds. Walking safaris must be booked in advance.
Another special activity available here is an interaction with the local cheetah research team: search for cheetah on the open plains of the Serengeti and learn more about these endangered big cats from the local cheetah researchers . (Booking essential; at an additional cost.)

FRANSCHHOEK
Located about 75 km (45 mi) east of Cape Town, Franschhoek is one of the oldest towns in South Africa. French Huguenot settlers first arrived in the late 1600s and began what has become a thriving agricultural industry focused primarily on winemaking. Much of the traditional Cape Dutch architecture has been preserved, making this one of South Africa’s prettiest places to visit, not only for the classic churches and farmhouses but also for its breathtaking landscapes. The town itself is situated in a picturesque valley nestled at the foot of imposing surrounding mountain ranges.
