The hike takes you through dense rainforest, bamboo forests, and up steep, muddy trails and can last anything from a couple of hours to an entire day and some level of fitness is required.  During the treks you do have the option of getting a porter at an additional charge, which we highly recommend.  Not only do the porters assist in carrying your bag and help you up and down some slippery pathways, it also creates jobs, which ensures a bigger effort in  the conservation and protection of these magnificent creatures.

Being in the presence of mountain gorillas is a deeply moving experience. Their expressive eyes, powerful yet gentle demeanor, and the close-knit family groups resonate with many trekkers, often leaving a lasting impression.  The encounter with the gorillas is limited to only 1 group of maximum 8 guests per gorilla family per day and the viewing is limited to one hour.  Considering all of these factors we strongly encourage at least two treks, ideally three to not only have the opportunity of spending time with different gorilla families, but also to give you the best chance of capturing amazing images and understanding the behaviour of gorillas.

The knowledge that these encounters contribute to the conservation of the species adds to the profound sense of connection and responsibility.
