ADVENTURE STORIES

TRIP REPORT: AMBOSELI AND KICHECHE PHOTO SAFARI

Our 2025 edition of the Amboseli and Kicheche Photo Safari once again exceeded expectations, reaffirming why these destinations are among the most sought-after, across the African continent for wildlife photographers. With breathtaking landscapes and unparalleled wildlife encounters, all three locations proved yet again why they deserve a place on every wildlife photographer’s bucket list.

Our journey began in Amboseli National Park, a renowned haven for wildlife and safri enthusiasts. While the park offers a diverse range of wildlife, our primary focus was on its iconic elephant population—particularly the legendary big tuskers that roam this region. Spending time with these majestic giants provided an unforgettable photographic experience, capturing their grace and grandeur against the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.

After an incredible experience in Amboseli, we ventured into two exclusive private safari conservancies within the greater Masai Mara ecosystem. Our first stop was Olare Motorogi Conservancy, a renowned haven for big cat enthusiasts. Over the years, this conservancy has become a personal favourite—not only for its exceptional predator sightings but also for the sense of tranquillity it offers, away from the busier areas of the Mara.

The landscape here is remarkably diverse, featuring vast open plains, acacia woodlands, and winding riverine drainage lines. This rich ecosystem provides the perfect habitat for a wide range of predators, making it an ideal location for wildlife photography. While the first couple of days started off at a slightly slower pace—still more rewarding than many other safari destinations—we were soon treated to incredible encounters with lions, leopards, and cheetahs, reinforcing why Olare Motorogi remains one of the best spots for capturing Africa’s apex predators in their natural environment.

Our final stop on this unforgettable safari was Naboisho Conservancy—a destination much like Olare Motorogi in its ability to deliver exceptional wildlife and safari encounters. Historically known for its thriving cheetah population, Naboisho continues to offer remarkable game viewing, though, like all wilderness areas, it experiences natural shifts in predator-prey dynamics.

In recent years, the lion population has surged, with several large prides now dominating the landscape. While this is fantastic from a wildlife photography and viewing perspective, it has placed added pressure on other predators such as cheetahs and leopards. Despite this shift, we were fortunate to witness a few breathtaking cheetah sightings and had several memorable encounters with leopards. However, the lions stole the show—with two large prides, each boasting cubs between four and six months old, providing endless entertainment during the early morning hours.

The beauty of combining these three destinations—Amboseli, Olare Motorogi, and Naboisho—lies in the diverse landscapes and wildlife experiences they offer. From the legendary big tuskers of Amboseli to the thrilling predator action of the Masai Mara conservancies, this journey provided an incredible range of photographic opportunities, making it an essential addition to any wildlife photographer’s portfolio.

We hope to welcome you on our Exclusive Amboseli and Masai Mara safari next year and can't wait to see what these exciting destinations have in store for us.
