The Apartheid Museum, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid.
An architectural consortium, comprising several leading architectural firms, conceptualised the design of the building on a seven-hectare stand. The museum is a superb example of design, space and landscape offering the international community a unique South African experience.
The exhibits have been assembled and organised by a multi-disciplinary team of curators, film-makers, historians and designers. They include provocative film footage, photographs, text panels and artefacts illustrating the events and human stories that are part of the horrific period in our history, known as apartheid.

A day trip to Soweto is a journey through South Africa's vibrant history and resilient spirit.

You will learn about the human origins through its world renown fossil sites and interactive educational centres. As a UNESCO world heritage site, it offers the chance to explore the Sterkfontein caves where famous fossils like Mrs Ples were found.
Sterkfontein caves are known to be one of the most famous fossil sites in the world, yielding more than 40% of the world's human-ancestors fossils.
GOLD REEF CITY
Not only is Gold Reef City the largest of its kind in South Africa, but was also voted one of Johannesburg most loved and coolest entertainment destinations.
There are 14 thrilling rides, 9 family rides and 20 dedicated kiddie rides to enjoy. The most famous of these would be the "Anaconda" rollercoaster.

MARIEVALE BIRD SANCTUARY
Where are all my fellow birding enthusiasts? This one is for you.
Only a 50 minute drive from OR Tambo International Airport, you will get rewarded for your efforts in terms of bird species at Marievale. What makes this spot special is not just the diversity of species but the rare species that occur here, species like African Rail and Red Chested Flufftail.
It also offers well placed hides, picnic spots and even hiking trails. The wetlands and grasslands also make this a very good photographic spot.
If you start nice an early in the morning you could get around 80 species in a single morning.
SANDTON SHOPPING CENTRE
So often people stay over in hotels in the Sandton area to overnight before flying back to their home destinations and we have many people enquiring about shopping. Therefor I found it important to add Sandton Shopping Centre to the list. Sandton offers a luxurious shopping experience with more than 300 international and local brands on display. You could also enjoy world class dining at some of South Africa's best restaurants.
There is also the option to go to the cinema to help pass the time at the hotel.
