Take a moment and imagine yourself standing on the edge of an open aircraft door, thousands of feet above one of the most surreal landscapes on Earth. As you look down, all your eyes can see is the vast Namib Desert, the oldest in the world, which stretches out like a golden ocean. Its dunes rising and falling in a hypnotic rhythm, meeting the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. The adrenaline surges as the countdown begins, 3, 2, 1 and suddenly, you’re plunging into the sky, the wind roaring in your ears, and your heart racing with a mix of exhilaration and awe.
Welcome to skydiving in Namibia, where every jump offers not only an unparalleled rush of adrenaline but also a bird’s eye view of one of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders. This is not just a dive, it’s an unforgettable encounter with the wild beauty of Africa from above.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Ground Rush Adventures in Swakopmund Namibia have two dive options,
- 1000ft 35 seconds free fall.
- 12 000ft 45b seconds freefall.
As well as there 'capture the moment' options,
- Basic Option - a skydiving cameraman jumps alongside you to catch every angle of your free fall experience. Your cameraman will adjust his position to capture the best close-ups as well as scenic shots taken from a distance. Videos and photos will be sent via a dropbox link.
- Deluxe Option -includes the basic option but has camera angles included that is not possible with the basic option. The tandem instructor will have a camera on his wrist. Once the parachute opens the camera man falls away so he can no longer film you but this option allows the video to switch over to your instructor’s camera to film your parachute ride as well. This package includes close up angles as well as outside angles of your skydive. It includes high quality digital images of your jump too. The quality and variety of this footage is unbeatable! Videos and photos will be sent via a dropbox link.
- Ultimate Combo Option - includes the Deluxe option, a t-shirt and you receive your video shortly after your jump , the video will be sent via a dropbox link too.
That all said, here’s what to expect from the experience as a whole:
1. The Build-Up
From the moment you arrive at the drop zone, excitement starts to build. After a safety briefing and suiting up in the proper gear, your instructor will walk you through the process, ensuring you’re ready for the big leap.
2. The Flight
As you get into the plane, your instructor attaches him/herself to you and then the plane ride to altitude offers a unique experience of its own. As you ascend, you’ll take in stunning aerial views, whether it’s endless desert or dramatic coastlines. This is when the reality of what’s coming hits, and your heart starts racing.
3. The Jump
Just before you reach your jump altitude, the door opens. The first moment of free fall is an indescribable sensation. A mix of pure exhilaration, adrenaline, and awe. You’ll plummet through the sky at speeds up to 200km/h, with the wind roaring around you.
4. The Parachute Glide
After around a 45 seconds free fall, the instructor deploys the parachute and everything shifts. The rush of freefall slows into a serene glide. This is your chance to soak in the views, guided by your instructor, as you descend gently to the ground flying over the oldest Desert in the world. This freedom will last for about 7 minutes before you touch
5. The Landing
The landing is smoother than most people expect, with your instructor guiding you to a gentle touchdown. Your feet hit the ground, and the surge of accomplishment and euphoria is unlike anything else.
Bonus: The Memories
Skydiving isn’t just an activity; it truly is an unforgettable experience. Many jump centers offer photos and videos, so you can relive and share the moment. Grounddrush did this particularly well and the moments sharing a drink, meal and making new friends in their club house after the jump was very special.
