KINGS CAMP LOCATION
Nestled in the northern reaches of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Kings Camp offers a gateway to the untamed wilderness of South Africa. Located adjacent to the iconic Kruger National Park, the Timbavati lies roughly 450 kilometers northeast of Johannesburg, straddling both the Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces. This remarkable region, often referred to as the Greater Kruger National Park, is a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
GETTING TO KINGS CAMP
Getting to Kings Camp is easier than you might think, thanks to its well-connected location:

By Air: The most convenient way to reach Kings Camp is by flying into Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport (HDS), which is approximately a 40-minute drive to the lodge, which King Camp would be happy to arrange. Daily flights operate from Johannesburg and Cape Town.Â

By Road: For those who prefer a scenic drive, Kings Camp is about a 6-hour drive from Johannesburg. The journey takes you through picturesque landscapes, including the rolling hills of Mpumalanga. This can be done as a self-drive or a Transfer.

Chartered Flights: If you’re looking to maximize your time in the bush, private charter flights can land directly at Timbavati’s airstrip, just a short drive from Kings Camp. Federal Air offers 2 daily shuttle fligts from OR Tambo to Kings camp.Â

ACTIVITIES AT KINGS CAMP
At Kings Camp, adventure meets relaxation through a variety of carefully curated activities.Â
- Guests can enjoy twice-daily a safari drives in customized luxury safari vehicles, led by highly qualified guides and trackers. Morning drives include tea, coffee, and biscuits, while afternoon drives treat guests to canapés and sundowners, offering a truly indulgent safari experience.Â
- For an extraordinary wildlife encounter, the King Warren Hide is a must-visit. This underground hide, perfectly positioned at a waterhole, allows up-close, eye-level viewing of animals in their natural habitat. With seating for up to 10 people, air conditioning, charging stations, a refreshment station, and one-way photographic glass, it’s a photographer’s dream. The hide also features cameras that stream live footage to flat-screen TVs, providing advance notice of approaching wildlife.
- For those who wish to explore on foot, guided bush walks are available upon request. These immersive walks take place just after breakfast and reveal a different side of the Timbavati ecosystem. Accompanied by a knowledgeable ranger, guests will learn to identify animal tracks, dung, insects, and plant life, uncovering the intricate web of life that makes up this unique wilderness. For safety reasons, children under 16 are not permitted on bush walks.
