The arid environment of the Kalahari is home to unique treasures waiting to be discovered, especially for those with patience and a keen eye for wildlife. Known for its large black-maned lions and a variety of other predators, the Kalahari offers thrilling early morning safaris in search of these majestic creatures. With exclusive use of the vehicle, you have the flexibility to stay out longer and explore at your own pace, making each safari truly your own. The tour is also an exceptional value for money, priced in South African Rand, making it an affordable yet luxurious safari experience that immerses you in one of Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes.
For those looking to extend their safari experience, the options are endless. From the Greater Kruger to the exclusive Sabi Sands, both offer exceptional wildlife encounters and luxury, making them the perfect additions to your Kalahari adventure. Johannesburg serves as an ideal springboard to explore even more of Southern Africa, with easy access to Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and further afield to Kenya and Tanzania. Whether you’re interested in more safari experiences or different adventures altogether, Johannesburg connects you to it all. For those looking to experience something unique and not wildlife-related, we highly recommend spending 4 nights in Cape Town, where you can explore stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and historic sites, making it the perfect complement to any safari.

      WHERE YOU'LL BE STAYING

      YOUR ITINERARY

      • DAY 1

Guests will be collected early morning from City Lodge hotel and transferred by road to Khamab Kalahari. The drive will take us approximately 10 hours as we leave the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg for the tranquility of the Kalahari. The drive will give you a great perspective of the vastness and beauty of South Africa as the landscape changes throughout the journey. We will arrive in time for a late lunch at Phênê Lodge before heading out on our first afternoon safari activity to explore the beauty of the Kalahari.
      • DAY 2 - 7

The mornings will start off early with a cup of coffee before heading out on our morning safari just before sunrise. The Kalahari is very well known for predators, especially the large black maned lions which will be one of our focusses during our time here. The early morning hours will be dedicated to trying to locate predators before the days warm up and they become less active. We will have exclusive use of the vehicle so there are no set times that we have to be back at camp. Depending on animal movement and activity, we will usually return to camp for lunch. The break between lunch and the afternoon safari can be used to relax in camp or improve your lightroom skills with the assistance of your Wild Eye guide. In the afternoons we will follow up on any interesting sightings we had in the morning, or explore the 90 odd thousand hectares that makes up Khamab. Shortly after sunset we will return to camp for a delicious dinner under the African sky and a drink around the fire to reflect on an incredible day and share stories. A standout feature of Phênê Lodge is its specialized photographic hides, recently introduced to cater to professional and enthusiast photographers. Strategically placed at waterholes and animal corridors, these hides are designed for optimal lighting and unobtrusive wildlife viewing
      • DAY 7

We will depart Phênê Lodge for our road transfer to Kanak Expedition Camp. There will of course be a morning and afternoon safari activity to enjoy on this day!
      • DAY 7 - 10

Once again the mornings will start early with a cup of coffee before heading out to explore this new region of Khamab Kalahari. With new landscapes and habitats to explore, the group will be spoilt with new photographic opportunities and stunning safari moments. However, the program will still generally follow the same layout with daily morning and afternoon safari activities. Similar to the first Lodge, Kanako also features a specially designed photographic hide. The hide allows photographers to observe and capture wildlife at close range without disturbance.
      • DAY 11

We will depart Kanako Expedition Camp early in the morning as we transfer by road back to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg you will either be transferred to your hotel if you are overnighting, or taken to international departures for your flight back home, signaling the end of an incredible 11 day safari.
      • EXTEND YOUR JOURNEY
