The MalaMala Photo Safari affords guests the opportunity to spend extended periods of time in a sighting, allowing for in-depth exploration and the chance to capture every moment without the rush of a typical schedule and additional pressure from other vehicles. Night and spotlight photography provides a rare opportunity to photograph nocturnal wildlife, including predators like lion and leopards, creating dramatic and intimate shots in the dark. Access to several kilometres of the Sand River, a vital water source in the dry season, becomes a hotspot for wildlife such as elephants, buffalo, and predators, offering prime photographic opportunities against a stunning river backdrop. These elements come together to create a perfect setting for capturing the rich diversity and raw beauty of the African bush.
The MalaMala Photo Safari offers excellent travel extension options, including visits to other private reserves within the Sabi Sands like Londolozi and Singita, each providing unique wildlife experiences and prime photography opportunities. For a change of pace, guests can explore Cape Town, renowned for its stunning landscapes, iconic Table Mountain, and vibrant culture. Beyond South Africa, Johannesburg serves as a hub with flights connecting to an extensive range of destinations across Africa, including the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Namibia's deserts, and Victoria Falls. Travelers can also visit Zambia for wildlife safaris, Uganda for gorilla trekking, and explore the iconic safaris of Kenya and Tanzania, or experience the unique wildlife of Rwanda. These extensions offer a seamless way to tailor a multi-destination adventure across Southern and East Africa.

AVAILABLE DATES

YOUR ITINERARY

  • DAY 1

Upon arrival at Mala Mala you will meet up with Andrew Beck who will be your Private Guide for the duration of your time at Mala Mala. After a brief orientation of the camp and the facilities you will depart on your first afternoon safari in search of a variety of wildlife that Mala Mala is known for. Arrive back at camp in the evening for a delicious dinner and share some stories after a memorable first day at Mala Mala.
  • DAY 2 - 7

After an early morning wake-up call, savor a freshly brewed cup of coffee on the deck at Mala Mala before setting off on the morning safari. The focus at this time of day is on predators, for which Mala Mala is renowned. Predators are most active during the early morning and late afternoons, making this the prime time for sightings. As the sun rises and the light is perfect, we will seek out these majestic creatures. As the day warms and animals move to the shade for rest, we return to camp where a delicious breakfast awaits. During the break between the morning and afternoon safaris, you can choose to get expert advice on your photographs from Andrew, or simply relax by the pool and soak up the African sun. In the afternoons, we will follow up on potential sightings from the morning, aiming for great photographic opportunities, or we will explore the expansive and magnificent Mala Mala property in search of new subjects. In the evenings, there might be the opportunity to use a spotlight, creating unique and striking images of nocturnal species. After another successful day in the wild, return to camp to enjoy a drink and share stories around the fire before dinner is served.
  • DAY 8

After your morning safari, return to camp for breakfast before departing Mala Mala.
